  2. Definition • People who implore for material benefit; gifts and/or donations. • They mostly request for money but also ask for cigarettes and other small items. • Many are often physically disabled.

  3. Where are they found? • Public Places • Transport routes • Busy markets • Parks

  4. Who? • Most beggars are those without money and without homes while many are disabled. • Some are also Buddhist monks, although they don’t need to plead for food/money.

  5. Signs • Many of them carry boards with them in which they write what it is they want. • Beer • A drink • Money

  6. Causes of Begging

  7. Panhandling • Aggressive panhandling is illegal in many countries. • No threats • No solicitation near ATMs, after dark and/or in groups.

  8. Controversy • People have started advocating that those who are physically and mentally able to work, should work and not beg. • Thus, several unions and laws have been made in order to urge people to work rather than beg.
