  3. Key recommendations - 1 • Health inequalities • Smoking cessation & tobacco control • Active ageing

  4. Health Inequalities • 2004 IoMD shows although overall healthy & wealthy, pockets of deprivation • 2007 IoMD shows the picture is relatively worse for Gloucestershire ( some areas doing better means others will drop down)

  5. Health Inequalities • more SOAs in Q1 • Priors Park • More in Oakley • Glos City • FoD doing slightly better Overall county rank from 126 to 121 • Q1 +6 • Q2 +7 • Q5 -18

  6. Key recommendations -2 • Tackling obesity • Reducing harm from alcohol • Promoting mental health & social inclusion

  7. Obesity • quarter of 4-5 year olds are overweight or obese • about a third of 10 - 11 year olds • about 60% of adults • (males more than females) • By 2023 we could see 50% increase in Diabetes, also CHD & stroke

  8. Key recommendations - 3 • Mitigating & adapting to climate change • Responding to demographic changes • Developing the public health potential of our workforce • public health advocates • healthy workplaces

  9. Climate Change • Incidents like the summer floods are likely to be more common • Heatwaves can kill • ‘New’ infectious diseases may emerge

  10. Workplace potential • Public health advocates: • frontline staff our are biggest asset • Not just GPs.. • Healthy workplace • allows us to reach groups such as working age men
