Ossification Osteoblast Bone Formation Osteoclast Layers of bone Osteocytes
Ossification- the process of making bones • Cartilage is replaced by calcium phosphate to form bone • Osteoblast- all bones originate from osteoblast • Also responsible for making new bones and repairing damages • Osteocytes are mature osteoblast cells that help continue bone formation • Osteoclasts – eat away old bone and shape new bone
Ossification • Process of making bone • Add calcium phosphate to cartilage Osteoblast Osteoclast Bone Formation • All bones originate from • Make new bones and repair old ones • Eat away old bone • Shape new bone Osteocytes Layers of bone • Mature osteoblast • Continue bone • formation

Different layer of bone • The periosteum is a thin membrane that contains nerves and blood vessels that nourish the bone. • The next layer is the compact bone(2) it is the solid hard part of the bone. • Spongy bone is a mesh-like network of tiny pieces of bone. Spongy bone (3) provides support for the skeletal system • (4) Marrow is a soft tissue where blood cells are made.
