The problem - you have to be the owner of a radio or TV-station or a newspaper
Media and democracy is a topic of importance. A democracy needs: • objective and trustworthy information • transparent and constant investigation of the powers of the state • independent and capable journalism.
Public service radio and television in Sweden is - non-commercial - independent of political, commercial and other interests.
It is in service tothe public, but not tax funded. All activities are financed by TV charges, sometimes called "licence fees", paid by the households.
Public service broadcasting in Sweden is performed by three separate companies: Swedish Radio (SR - the radio company Swedish Television (SVT - the television company) Swedish Educational Broadcasting Company (UR - the educational radio and TV company)
For SKr 5,25 a day you can enjoy: - all national and regional programmes on SVT, - all national and local programmes on SR, including the external services of Radio Sweden International and - the radio and TV programmes on UR.
SVT programming is subject to the provisions of the Radio Act, to terms set out in the charter between SVT and the state as well as internal programming guidelines. The charter guarantees SVT´s independency of all pressure groups, political, commercial or otherwise.

81 of 100 of the most watched programmes during 2007 were produced and broadcast by SVT. Hours of broadcast in 2007: 22 200 hrs Hours of broadcast a day (and night): 60 hrs
Viewing time (approx. 154 minutes per day) is fairly stable despite an increasing number of Swedish and international commercial TV channels.

The Prime Minister can never ask for ”special time” on the channels of Public Service nor in private channels
Complains regarding programmes and contents are handeled by a Board of Complain.
Sanction: You have to pass the sentence and present their their comment
Private channels: If you get a permissen to transmit you are obliged to fullfill the agreement on good journalism.
