C1 $100 The movement of water from earth to the atmosphere, and back to earth.
C1? $100 What is the Water cycle?
C1 $200 The blanket of air surrounding earth is.
C1 $200 What is the Atmosphere?
C1 $300 The layer of air closest to Earth’s surface.
C1 $300 What is the troposphere?
C1 $400 The border between two air masses.
C1 $400 What is a front?
C1 final The final Jeopardy answer is: How do mountain ranges affect weather in the surrounding area?Include information about Air Masses & Precipitationon both sides of the mountain. Timer
As air moves up and over mountain ranges, the air cools. Much of the water vapor condenses, resulting in precipitation. At higher elevations, with colder temperatures, snow will be the main form of precipitation. When air passes to the other side of the mountains, most of the water vapor will no longer be present. The air will warm as it comes down the mountain. There will be little or no precipitation. C1 final
The process by which water changes from a liquid to a gas. C2 $100
C2 $100 What is evaporation?
C2 $200 The process by which a gas turns into a liquid.
C2 $200 What is condensation?
C2 $300 A large body of air that has the same temperature and humidity throughout.
C2 $300 What is a air mass?
C2 $400 The weight of the atmosphere pressing down on earth.
C2 $400 What is air pressure?
C2 $500 If it is a cold, rainy day, and the weather forecast for tomorrow is warm and sunny; what could you predict about the amount of evaporation that will occur tomorrow compared to today?
C2 $500 The amount of evaporation will be greater tomorrow because sunlight provides the energy that causes water to evaporate.
C3 $100 The instrument you would use to measure the pressure of the surrounding air.
C3 $100 What is a barometer?
C3 $200 True or False? Cold air is denser than warm air, warm air exerts more pressure.
C3 $200 False Cold air is denser than warm air, cold air exerts more pressure.
C3 $300 Layer of the atmosphere where most of the Earth’s weather happens.
C3 $300 Where is the troposphere?
C3 $400 Has the greatest effect on humidity.
C3 $400 What is air temperature?
C3 $500 If you are at the Beach, which direction does the wind blow, and why?
C3 $500 The wind blows from the sea toward land because the air over land is warmer than over the sea. The air over land rises, and the air over the sea moves inland.
C4 $100 The wind that results from a local difference in temperature.
C4 $100 What is local wind?
C4 $200 Is used to measure wind speed.
C4 $200 What is a anemometer?
C4 $300 The cause of prevailing winds moving in curved paths.
C4 $300 What is Earth’s rotation on it’s axis?
C4 $400 The name of a wind that blows constantly from the same direction.
C4 $400 What are prevailing winds?
C4 $500 If you are leaving on a vacation today and the weather forecaster says there is a continental polar air mass over the area now and tomorrow a maritime tropical air mass will move in. What weather can you expect today, and how will the weather change tomorrow?
C4 $500 The continental polar air mass will provide cool a dry weather, and tomorrow the maritime tropical air mass will provide hot and humid weather with the possibility of thunderstorms and perhaps even a hurricane.
C5 $100 The layer of the atmosphere that contains protective gases.
C5 $100 What is the ozone layer?
C5 $200 The weather patterns you know when the winter weather where you live is about the same every year.
C5 $200 What is the climate?
C5 $300 The four types of precipitation.
C5 $300 What are: rain, snow, sleet, and hail?
C5 $400 The air mass that forms over you when you are on an island in the Caribbean.
