Komodo Dragon’s Diet • The Komodo dragon eats Rusa deer, birds, wild pigs, monkeys and other reptiles. • Komodo dragons eat nearly all parts of its prey, including the bones, fur, and hooves. • After a large meal, the Komodo dragon does not need to eat and drink for several days.
Komodo Dragon Hunting • The Komodo dragon often hides for hours in tall grass near a water hole for prey • When the prey walks toward the water, the Komodo dragon uses its strong legs to pounce on the animal to the ground and bites it with its sharp teeth
When the Komodo dragon bites its prey, the animal’s wound fills with deadly bacteria from the Komodo dragons’ mouth • If the prey gets away from the Komodo dragon after being bitten, it soon dies from the bacteria.The Komodo dragon uses its Jacobson’s organ to track down the animal
Why the Komodo Dragon is Endangered • The Komodo dragon is endangered because of lack of egg-laying females, poaching, human encroachment, natural disasters and Humans disturb more and more of its natural habitat and hunt the same food Komodo dragons need to survive
How are we helping the Komodo Dragon’s survive? On some islands like Komodo have protected land for them. I think we should make an effort to help them more.
