  2. How did early Christians face the destruction of their society?

  3. As Jesus was leaving the Temple grounds, his disciples pointed out to him the various Temple buildings. 2But he told them, “Do you see all these buildings? I assure you, they will be so completely demolished that not one stone will be left on top of another!” (Matthew 24:1-2)

  4. Luke 21:28 "Now when these things begin to happen, look up and lift up your heads, because your redemption draws near."

  5. How could early Christians be so accepting of the destruction around them? They were “of another world!”

  6. First-Century Christians were “other worldly!” • “Our citizenship is in heaven”(Philippians 3:20) • “Beloved, I beg you as sojourners and pilgrims, abstain from fleshly lusts which war against the soul” (1 Peter 2:11)

  16. Signs of a “this worldly” focus • The “Social Gospel” in churches • Our conversations show too much focus on hobbies, entertainment, sports, politics, house, etc. • A desire for “lite” Bible study • Discomfort with teaching on worldliness.

  17. How to fight worldly tendencies? • Be ready to suffer • Give more • Make a point to talk about spiritual things • Spend more time with Christians • Identify with heaven more than USA • See the world for what it is - a temporary place of suffering
