2012 SPIRENT FEDERALGPS TRAINING CONFERENCE Scenario Generation 2: Building a Realistic Test Environment Workshop
Examples • Atmosphere • Klobuchar Model • Vehicle Effects • Antenna Switching • Environment Effects • Putting it all together… • Paignton Parking Lot • Sunset Point Mall
Atmosphere – Klobuchar Model (1 of 3) • Open any scenario • Open the Atmosphere file for editing (double-click or right click > edit) • Input the following Alpha and Beta coefficients for Day 64 (March 4, 2012) • Apply to RF signal • 2.7498D-08 3.4204D-08 -3.2239D-07 -6.0685D-07 ION ALPHA • 1.5587D+05 -1.9049D+05 -2.5786D+06 8323072* ION BETA • * 8323072 is max SimGEN input • Improved Klobuchar Coefficients from CODE at: http://www.aiub.unibe.ch/content/research/gnss/code___research/igs/klobuchar_style_ionospheric_coefficients/index_eng.html • Apply to Broadcast ionospheric model Upload 1 and Upload 2 • 1.5832D-08 0.0000D+00 -1.1921D-07 0.0000D+00 ION ALPHA • 1.1264D+05 -1.6384D+04 -2.6214D+05 6.5536D+04 ION BETA • Broadcast values from: http://www.ngs.noaa.gov/CORS/data.shtml
Atmosphere – Klobuchar Model (2 of 3) • Observe the differences between our Default and the input broadcast and improved Klobuchar coefficients by viewing the Received Signals Window • Examples shown from 9 March 2012, 00:00.00 and 0 Lat, 0 Long, 0 Alt static location
Atmosphere – KlobucharModel (3 of 3) SimGEN Default Improved Only Broadcast Only
Vehicle Effects - Antenna Switching (1 of 2) • Open any scenario • Copy the following files located on the Spirent CD into your scenario folder: bomb on plane.ant_pat and hemi.ant_pat • Enable antenna switching and select the copied antenna patterns: • Antenna #1: bomb on plant.ant_pat • Antenna #2: hemi.ant_pat
Vehicle Effects - Antenna Switching (2 of 2) • Edit antenna switching file with the following: • Antenna #1 used at simulation time 00:00.00 • Antenna #2 used at simulation time 00:00.15 • Play the scenario and observe the behavior • Try to create your own antenna patterns and antenna switching profiles to increase your familiarity with using them
Putting It Together – Parking Lot (1 of 2) • Spirent Communications Plc • Paignton, United Kingdom
Putting It Together – Parking Lot (2 of 2) • Open Spirent provided scenario Example – Static – Paignton Vertical Plane.scn • Review scenario source files • User actions file: Vertical Plane.act which will apply (4) vertical plane multipath at 00:02.00 • Vertical plane file: Spirent Comm Parking Lot.vep which has to vertical planes to model the building and hill on both sides of the parking lot • Run the simulation and observe the results • Also included with the scenario is an antenna pattern, Spirent Comm Parking Lot.ant_pat which can be substituted for the vertical plane to model the building and hillside • Feel free to add and/or change the settings to modify the scenario
Putting It Together – Sunset Point Mall (1 of 4) ~20 meters ~120 meters
Putting It Together – Sunset Point Mall (2 of 4) • Open Spirent provided scenario Example – Auto – Strip Mall.scn • Start SimPROCESS from Tools > General Utilities > SimPROCESS • Press OK to import session • Import session from Import, Library and browsing to Positioning Application\SimPROCESS\Library and selecting general.lib • Press ‘>’ to expand the Session • Select nmea2ucd • Press Run
Putting It Together – Sunset Point Mall (3 of 4) • Browse to the Example – Auto – Strip Mall Directory • Select the NMEA Input File nmea_in - Garmin - 02-24-2009_5.txt • Name the UMT output file auto.umt • Enable the ‘Use GSV messages …’ • Name the ACT output file auto_sv.act • Select GSV message transmitted AFTER • Enable ‘Level commands with a …’ and specify CNR of 40 dB-Hz • Run nmea2umt • Press OK to message, which is removing the WAAS PRNs and generating the *.act file for automatically adjusting the signal power levels
Putting It Together – Sunset Point Mall (4 of 4) • Add ‘INTERP_VEL,INTERP_ACCEL’ to the top of the auto.umt file so that SimGEN will interpolate the velocity and acceleration data, save as auto_interp.umt • Select the User action file and User motion file just created • Run the scenario and observe the results • Also included are some example antenna patterns for antenna switching • Feel free to add and/or change the settings to modify the scenario, such as adding multipath, antenna switching, Land Mobile Multipath or terrain obscuration
