4. What Should John Do? Talk with Andy about his drinking- John feels Andy’s added pressures from the promotion to quality control may interfere with Andy’s production on the new job. Keep in mind they have worked together for years-he may lose a friend if Andy doesn’t want to change Point out to him that substance abuse may be the cause for shoddy production Part III section 5 states “Engineers shall not be influenced in their professional duties by conflicting interests

5. Code of Ethics for EngineersSection III #7 • “Engineers shall not attempt to injure,… the professional reputation, prospects, practice or employment of other engineers. Engineers who believe others are guilty of unethical or illegal practice shall present such information to the proper authority for action. “

II Talk to Harvey Hillman Plant Manager • Invites John to lunch to discuss the prospects of Andy’s promotion giving John the chance to talk about how he feels about drinking on the job • Since Harvey moved Jack Curtis out of quality control because Jack was drinking it almost seems like John must tell the truth about the way drinking affects the job performance

III Two Concerns of the Union • Mandatory random drug testing for their non-professional workforce and mandatory drug testing for all new workers • 1) Drugs are illegal-The union believes the testing infringes on the privacy of the workers • 2) Exempting professionals from drug testing is discriminatory. That is a double standard.

While it found that neither employers nor employees thought the problem of workplace leglessness had got worse as a result, it does note an "ongoing cultural problem in Britain". • The places where this cultural problem is most ongoing is London and eastern England, where 26 per cent of employees admitted to drinking while on duty. These were closely followed by the south west, notching up a liver-bashing 24 per cent.
