  2. It is Saturday 2pm. The HFL is closed. Dave has just had lunch at the King’s Arms and is off to the Bodleian Library opposite.

Some BOD truths • National and international research library. • Legal deposit since 1610 - over 8 million items held. • Extensive purchases in foreign languages and US publications. • Most Bodleian books need to be ordered to a reading room. • Cannot borrow items from the Bodleian. • No food or drink (including water, chewing gum etc.) or musical instruments or cigarettes.   14. Using open-shelf books Fill this out and leave it on the shelf when you use an open-shelf book.

  16. Fetching times vary depending when you order a book and where it comes from. Before placing an order you will told the estimated fetching time. You can check on progress and renew stack requests on your Patron account.

  17. Ordering books from stacks • Automatic Stack Request (ASR) via OLIS • Max of 20 books (URR=10, UCam = 4) • Kept for 7 days • Renew online via Patron Functions • Choice of reading rooms • Minimum fetching time: 3 hrs, often longer ORDER IN ADVANCE and ORGANISE YOURSELF !

Searching library collections • SOLO - Search Oxford Libraries Online http://solo.ouls.ox.ac.uk/ • This is a resource discovery tool, NOT a catalogue • New search engine to search across collections available to Oxford library users- currently OLIS and ORA • Can link into library catalogue to find where an item is held • Can link directly into electronic resources • OLIS - the Oxford Libraries Information System http://www.lib.ox.ac.uk/olis/ • This is the catalogue for Oxford Libraries • Gives details of library holdings & status • Browsable indexes • Use for Automated Stack Request at the Bodleian
