How to do well at Eastern • Attend every class schedule • Take notes • Complete assigned assignments • Eat right • Sleep (7 to 8) • STUDY!!!! • Enjoy
Procrastination list • Watch TV • Play video games • Read (for pleasure) • Hang out with friends • Listen to music • Go shopping • Sleep • Clean • Facebook • Cook • Eat • Write (for fun) • Play an instrument • Nothing
Time Management Tips * • Personal Time Survey • The way you currently using your time • How you spend your time each week • Study Hour Formula • The number of hours you study for each class per week • 2 hours for an easy class, 3 for an average class, 4 for a hard class
Daily Schedules • Construct a schedule that accounts for each hour per day • Classes, work, meals, sleep, clubs , study time, socialization time, relaxation time (e.g. going to the gym, watching TV, reading) • Don’t be a perfectionist • You cannot schedule everything • Don’t try to do everything at once • Pace yourself, set little goals
Learn to say no • If you have to study, you should not feel obligated to go out with your friends • There will be other parties, and social event • Learn to Prioritize • Have a “to do list” • In order of importance • Study vs. party • Combine activities • Read an assignment while working out • Make a list of what needs to be done while eating • Study while showering
Study Tips^ • Found out about the information that’s going to be on the exam • The type of exam (Multiple Choice, Short answers, essay) • How much the exam is worth • How and by when the exam will be graded • Flashcards • Outlines • Form a story line of the information • Make a song • Have different study sessions • Don’t cram the information the night before an exam
Before the Test • Find a place with no distraction • No TV, music, internet (if you need back ground noise, find something that’s not too distracting) • Be focus, full, and awake • Set up different time period to study each subject or chapters
Study Tips • Flashcards • Review them often • Keep then short • Break then up into smaller groups or subjects • Key words • Shuffle
Repeat your class notes over and over and over and over and over, until you get sick of it or when you wake up in the morning it is the first thing that pops up in your mind • Summarize you notes without looking at them • Teach the information to yourself (or pretend you teaching it to someone else
My advise • After learning the information • Get a blank piece of paper and write down all the information you know by heart so that you know what to focus on the most. • Study before going to a study group • You’ll be able to ask more questions , learn the information quicker, and not be mislead by other students information • Keep the group small
Taking Tests • Read the instructions • Watch out for words like “all”, and “Except” • Read the essay questions before the multiple choice • If gives your mind a chance to think about the answer • If you are able to answer the essay or short answer question do then first (they usually worth more the MC) • Skip hard questions • If you not sure about a question ask your professor, or come back to it later • Look over your answers after you’re done
After the exam • Re-read all the questions and answers • Even if you got the right answer on a question re-read it, especially if it is on a quiz • Don’t throw you exams away if the professor allow you to keep them • Write down your grade!
