  2. Warm-Up: • What do you think “economics” is? (there is no wrong answer) • What is a couch potato? • Do you agree or disagree with the statement, “AMERICANS ARE A NATION OF COUCH POTATOES!”? Why or why not? (Explain your answer) • Lastly, how do you think economics can help you understand why the U.S. is a nation of so many couch potatoes?

  3. Warm-Up: Ferris Bueller’s Day Off • Review what just happened in the brief clip. Summarize in 1-2 sentence what happened. • How can you relate to Ferris Bueller? • Pick ONE economic principal and explain how it relates to the clip you just saw. • List any economic terms you might have heard or seen in the economics class.

  4. Solving A Mystery: “Why Are We A Nation of Couch Potatoes? • In groups, you will have the opportunity to play a part in solving this mystery. As there are 6 Principles of Economic Reasoning, each group will be responsible for one and will present their findings to the class.

  5. Order of Events: • Quietly read through the entire text, pgs. 3-5 • Then discuss your group’s section. • On butcher paper, your group must include a: • A summary of your section • A new example to make your section more clear • Solve the mystery • Present findings to class

  6. BUTCHER PAPER Your group’s principle (write it out) Summary (need to answer Qs that correspond to your section from the back) Personal Example Solving the Mystery (based on your principle)

  7. Questions to Answer: • Principle 1: Questions A & B • Principle 2: Questions C & D • Principle 3: Questions E, F, & G • Principle 4: Questions H & I • Principle 5: Questions J & K • Principle 6: Questions L & M

  8. Closure: • Take a look at ALL 6 Principles One Last Time!!! • Do you agree with each statement? Why or why not?

  9. Presenting Your Findings: • As each group presents, be respectful of your classmates. • Share Your Findings and highlight the main ideas as well as your example. • As each group presents, fill in the handout so that you have the notes and a complete understanding of ALL the Economic Principles.
