MISSION: Maintain, train, and equip combat-ready Naval forces capable of winning wars, deterring aggression, and maintaining freedom of the seas FUNCTIONS *Organize, Train, Equip Navy & USMC forces *Gain & maintain naval supremacy *Provide CAS, strategic nuclear war capabilities, antisubmarine warfare, protection of shipping, aerial refueling and mine laying. *Provide appropriate air and missile defense and space control ops. *Operate sea lines of communication *Support and conduct Special Operations *Defend US by maintaining maritime superiority *Contribute to regional stability *Conduct ops on and from the sea *Provide logistic support to other forces *Seize or defend other naval bases *Conduct land operations as they pertain to maritime ops (Marine Corps) United States Navy ROLES CAPABILITIES LIMITATIONS *Six active numbered fleets *12x Carrier strike groups *6x month rotating deployments (units always located throughout the world) *12x Expeditionary strike groups *4x Naval Special Warfare Groups w/enablers *Naval Reserves *Main combat power is limited to the sea *Relies on USMC for land combat power
