Welcome to… Meet the Teacher Night Brandywine Heights Elementary School Miss Trupp- Grade 2
Introduction My name is Miss Trupp, and I will be your child’s second grade teacher. I have a Bachelor’s Degree elementary and early childhood education from Millersville University, and a Master’s Degree from Wilkes University in classroom technology. I enjoy traveling and doing mission work to help others. It is a great feeling to help someone in need. I love going to new states and historical sites! I also like painting, reading, kayaking, four wheeling, camping, golfing and spending time with my family and friends.
Reading: • Graded on report card (percent) • Focus on reading fluency and comprehension • High Frequency /Target Vocabulary Words • Guided Reading Groups (flexible small groups based on individual reading needs of each child) • STAR program(beginning, middle, end, and progress monitoring. • ThinkCentral • Independent Reading • Reading challenge Language Arts • Spelling: • New spelling words to practice with each story • Test days will vary; please look at your child’s agenda book/webpage for test dates
Vocabulary • High Frequency Words- words that children are expected to read independently (not spell). • Target Vocabulary Words- words that children are expected to know the meanings and how to apply them to real life situations.
Writing • Journal Writing • Inventive Spelling (Kid Writing) • Daily Edit • Focus: - Content (providing supportive details) - Organization/logical order of events (beginning, middle, end) - Conventions (grammar, complete sentences, correct punctuation, spelling, and capitalization). End of the year book • Cursive Writing - will be taught during the winter months (Zaner-Bloser style) *Please do not encourage your child to practice cursive before he/she is taught in school to avoid confusion/habits

Homework Homework: • Typically given Monday through Thursday and someFridays • Refer to “Assignment Book”(should be signed by an adult each day) • Posted daily on my teacher page ** It is also encouraged and recommended to practice math facts, spelling words, and read on a daily basis (will not always be written in the agenda book)
Test Envelope Test Envelopes • Contains graded items to be viewed by parent(s) • Please initial each item inside the envelope (to show you viewed it) • Please sign the signature/comment page each time the folder comes home • Please be sure to send all items back to school in the envelope when it is returned – I will file their work into their portfolio • It is encouraged to review the graded items with your child • Please feel free to notify me if you see any grading errors or have any questions • Test envelope will be sent home randomly: not on a designated day
BEHAVIOR SYSTEM • Rewards -Whole Class (marble jar) -Individual (coins) Behavior - Progressive warning system with loss of privileges (card system) • Respect poster/Consequences - Vary ( No partner work, time taken from a group or activity, loss of privilege, phone call home) ** Please refer to the Student Handbook for school discipline/behavior code.

Classroom Procedures • Sharing: • Every child will get a chance to share (Player of the Week) • Field Trips: • Spring field trip • Classroom Volunteers: • Classroom helpers work with students and/or complete clerical tasks • MUST HAVE ALL CLEARANCES • Help with parties and special events • Mystery Reader • Book Clubs: • Sent home monthly • Please no cash (make checks payable to Scholastic Book Clubs) • Can make one payment for multiple club orders • Orders can be made online • Class code L98VG
Snack and Lunch • Snack: • Students may bring in a healthy, individual snack on a daily basis. Examples of healthy snacks include: cut fruit/vegetable, pretzels, crackers, and granola bars. • No set snack time (students may eat anytime) • NO TREE NUTS (walnuts, pecans, almonds, cashews, macadamia nuts, pistachios, and chestnuts) • Lunch: • Please send lunch money to school with your child in the envelope provided. This money will be added to your child’s account. Cash should not be sent in on a daily basis. • Students will have a number and a card to purchase their lunch. • You may add money online as well. • **Breakfast is also available in the morning if interested**
Miscellaneous Birthdays: - We love celebrating birthdays! You may send in a treat to celebrate your child’s birthday in school. Absences: • If your child is absent from school, please contact the school by 9:00 am to report the absence. *School Phone: 610-682-5171. • Excuse blanks and notes must be sent back to school within 3 days of your child’s absence. • Absent folder- 3 days to make up work Health Information • Please be sure to return the Health Services card as soon as possible • All medication goes to the school nurse • NO TREE NUTS (walnuts, pecans, almonds, cashews, macadamia nuts, pistachios, and chestnuts) Car Pick-Ups: • If your child is going to be a car pick-up, please send a note to school with your child or notify the office by 9:30 a.m. * Snow day / emergency plan- make sure your child knows where to go
