  2. Outline • Introduction • Problem Statement • Background • Related Work • Metrics for Evaluation • Time Line • Deliverables LAWS: Location Accuracy Based on Wireless Signals

  3. introduction • Need For Location Accuracy • Disaster/Security, e.g. E-911 • Better Direction • Geo-Fencing • Better Mobile Applications • Google map with accurate position display.. LAWS: Location Accuracy based on Wireless Signals

  4. Problem Statement • Determine Location accuracy based on Wi-Fi and GPS signals. LAWS: Location Accuracy based on Wireless Signals

  5. Background • GPS information – Latitude , Longitude, Altitude. • Its inaccuracy comes from blocking of signals from GPS satellites, e.g. indoor problem. • Wi-Fi derived location information • The GPS location of Wireless access point (AP) • BSSID can be used to identify uniquely the signal of an AP. • By correlating the strength of three AP signal we can estimate the location of a Wi-Fi receiver. • The inaccuracy comes from signal to noise ratio, shielding effect LAWS: Location Accuracy based on Wireless Signals

  6. Related Work • WiFi GPS based Combined positioning Algorithm[Zirari et al,2010] • Improve GPS Positioning Accuracy with Context Awareness[Huang,2008] • Analyze spoofing attacks on single and multiple receivers in civilian and military GPS systems [Tippenhauer et al, 2011] • Development of a Portable GPS Civilian Spoofer [Humphreys et al, 2008] • Android Application to alert driver in school zone if over speeding [Whipple et al, 2009] • IT Forensic analysis based on IP Geo location information [Koch et al, 2015] LAWS: Location Accuracy based on Wireless Signals

  7. METRICs for Evaluation • Accuracy • Time Performance LAWS: Location Accuracy based on Wireless Signals

  8. Goal of the Project • Conduct experiments to evaluate location accuracy based on Wi-Fi signals and GPS signals. • Our experiments focus on outdoor such UCCS Alpine Soccer Field or Alpine parking garage or central court or older Engineering building because we have better shielding effect on the wall door. • Develop an Android Application for collecting Wi-Fi base station information., signal strength, device GPS Signals and reported location. • Develop and algorithm to calculate android phone location based on the Wi-Fi signal strength. • Based on the availability of the base station data, compare the android phone signal strength with those observed by the base station. 9. Time Line LAWS: Location Accuracy based on Wireless Signals

  10. Deliverables • Android Application for Location accuracy based on Wi-Fi and GPS signals. • A Project report documenting the software prototype LAWS. LAWS: Location Accuracy based on Wireless Signals
