Perspectives on Consumer Behavior Kelsey Colvin Matt Wieber Chapter 4 BA493
Featured Ad Campaign • Current Campaign: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5wXhUqjHUQg • Campaign that started it all: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5wXhUqjHUQg
Relevance? • Carl’s Jr. food is recognizing Level 1 (Physiological needs) of Maslow’s Hierarchy of Needs (Hunger, thirst) • Sara Jean Underwood (The blonde one) is an OSU alumni
Thoughts • Clever? • Appealing to the senses? • Did this ad grab your attention? • Does this ad make you want a burger?
Shaping • Shaping is the reinforcement of successive acts that lead to a desired behavior pattern • What this means? • Carl’s Jr. ads have made an impression on young men through the use of attractive women reinforcing the theory that sex sells
Possible Downfalls • Geared towards men consumers more than women consumers • Not realistic (Women with those bodies don’t actually eat that kind of food…) • Not considered by most to be “Family Friendly” and usually fast food has a family friendly image
Successful Campaign? • According to Forbes, Carl’s Jr impression scores increased significantly among young men since the commercial’s (referring to a previous Kate Upton Carl’s Jr. commercial) release on February 26. The impression score however did not see a significant impact among the general public.
