Pre-Arousal - The Attractive Phase • Similarities and Differences • Men vs. Women • Men=Visual, Women=Emotional • Men are category-specific whereas women have greater tendency to be aroused by both genders. • Heterosexual vs. Bisexual vs. Homosexual • In general, bisexual men don’t have strong genital arousal to both male and female sexual stimuli and appear to be more homosexual than bisexual. • Young vs. Old • What was attractive “back then” is different from what is attractive now.

Pornography - History and Politics • The history of erotic depictions includes: paintings, sculpture, photographs, theater, music and writing showing things of a sexual nature throughout time. • Created by nearly every civilization, ancient and modern - integrated into religious beliefs and cultural practices. • Many religions believe that pornography will encourage lust or adultery and press for legislation restricting its publication. • 1968 - the U.S. Supreme Court ruled in Stanley v. Georgia that people could read and look at whatever they wished in the privacy of their own homes - which included pronography. • $2 Million to fund Presidential commission to study pornography.

Sex in the Media - Alcohol • Sex Sells: • Sexually explicit ads have the tendency to draw in more men. • Men are more responsive to “sexy” ads. (i.e. Alcohol) • Sex can also be a turn-off: • Well-educated people realize that they're being manipulated. • Only targets specific groups. • Alcohol - “Liquid Courage” • Lowers standards, makes people more sexually aggressive and can inhibit normal genital sexual response.
