History of the Research & Educational Foundation (R&E) • Established by a Declaration of Trust in 1966 as a tax-exempt foundation • A 501(c)(3) organization governed by a Board of Trustees which include the IAAP President, President Elect, Vice President, Secretary and Treasurer • Created to advance the knowledge of the administrative profession and provide educational services to admins
Accomplishments of the R&E Since its inception, the R&E Foundation has raised nearly half a million dollars to support the following: • Constituent research and benchmarking studies relative to the profession to support the following: • Workplace responsibilities and skills needed • Compensation trends • Best practices in office administration • Business and office ethics • Grants for educational workshops and seminars • Validation of IAAP’s certification exams
The R&E Refocuses • The R&E Board of Trustees appointed a subcommittee on July 23, 2009 to: • Review the existing R&E mission and vision within the context of the changing needs of the profession • Develop strategic goals to support the mission of the foundation • Develop a roadmap to implement the strategic goals through greater involvement of IAAP chapters and divisions and expanded donor base
The R&E Today and Tomorrow A new mission statement: To advance the careers of administrative professionals through research and education initiatives that enhance their professional development
The R&E Today and Tomorrow New Strategic Goals to support the mission: • Conduct, sponsor or promote targeted educational programs that meet the needs of the profession, align with strategic priorities and communicate core values • Support scholarships for IAAP educational conferences and IAAP certification programs • Conduct content validity studies for the CPS and CAP exams • Participate in co-branded research studies germane to the profession • Publish and promote educational materials
The R&E Roadmap to Tomorrow/ Implementing the Strategic Goals • Goal No. 1: Identify priority IAAP branded programs and develop implementation and marketing strategies to support reaching admins • Goal No. 2:Develop targeted scholarships and grants and secure the necessary funding • Goal No. 3:Insure that the IAAP certification programs meet the changing needs of admins through reliable baseline information • Goal No. 4: Identify targeted research relevant to the needs of the profession and secure partner collaboration where necessary • Goal No. 5:Determine IAAP publishing priorities and market as branded products to include “white papers” with business partners
Next Steps • Develop a plan to support the strategic goals through greater involvement of IAAP chapters and divisions in communicating its new mission and case for support throughout the association • Increase R&E fundraising to support the overall mission of the foundation and the 2012 EFAM scholarship program • Successfully implement the inaugural 2012 EFAM scholarship program • Update the R&E home page on the IAAP website to reflect the new initiatives of the foundation, including supporting information and materials
Recap of 2012 EFAM Scholarship Program • Program focus will be on administrative professionals who are attending EFAM for the first time and administrative professionals who are temporarily unemployed and interested in attending EFAM • Create scholarship application materials for those interested • Secure scholarship application review task force to select scholarship recipients based upon available funds • Send out program notifications to IAAP members in the Fall with application deadline by Jan. 31, 2012 and recipient selection by March 31
How You Can Help: Be CLEAR • Contribute; set the tone; make a personal contribution as an investment in the profession through the R&E • Leverage support for the Foundation; within your Chapter/Division and the company/organization where you work • Educate yourself; become more knowledgeable about the Foundation’s mission and strategic goals • Advocate on behalf of the R&E; inform your peers and stakeholders both inside and outside the profession • Reach and expand our influence as a source to enhance the educational journey of the administrative professional
