  2. Deep Learning is the fastest-growing field in artificial intelligence (AI). 2

  3. With a Huge Recent Growth of AI Applications in Government … TRANSPORTATION HEALTHCARE SURVEILLANCE NATIONAL SECURITY 3

  4. Even Drawing Attention From … “I tend to be optimistic – Historically we’ve absorbed new technologies, new jobs are created, and standards of living go up.” -Barack Obama President of the United States WIRED Article 4

  5. The Potential is Still Growing … Government investment in AI is “only $200 million in basic AI research annually. Studies have found that the optimal level of public funding needs to be about 2X-4X about we have now.” -Jason Furman Chairman of the White House Counsel of Economic Advisor NVIDIA BLOG 5

  6. “AI has the same explosive potential as the internet – it has the potential to revolutionize everything we do.” -France Cordova Director of the National Science Foundation GTC DC 6

  8. Here are the “Top Five” stories highlighting how Deep Learning and AI are accelerating innovation this week… 8

  9. 1 What is the Intelligent Industrial Revolution? Intelligent machines powered by AI computers that can learn, reason and interact with people are no longer science fiction. Today, a self-driving car powered by AI can meander through a country road at night and find its way. An AI-powered robot can learn motor skills through trial and error. In my three decades in the computer industry, none has held more potential, or been more fun. The era of AI has begun. Our industry drives large-scale industrial and societal change. As computing evolves, new companies form, new products are built, our lives change. 10. 2 Discussion with President Obama and MIT’s Joi Ito On AI As machine learning enables our computers to teach themselves, a wealth of breakthroughs emerge, ranging from medical diagnostics to cars that drive themselves. A whole lot of worry emerges as well. Who controls this technology? Will it take over our jobs? Is it dangerous? President Obama was eager to address these concerns. The person he wanted to talk to most about them? Entrepreneur and MIT Media Lab director Joi Ito. So I sat down with them in the White House to sort through the hope, the hype, and the fear around AI. READ MORE Keep up HERE with the latest Deep Learning and AI News WIRED Article 10

  11. 3 Life-Changing Technology for the Visually Impaired To bring more independence to the lives of people with limited sight, a new wearable device called Horus uses GPU-powered deep learning and computer vision to help them “see” by describing what its users are looking at. Its maker, a Swiss startup called Eyra, announced this week at GTC DC in Washington that the device will soon be available through an early access program in Italy. Alpha testers describe Horus as a life-changing device, said Saverio Murgia, CEO and co-founder of Eyra. 12. 4 White House Economist: AI Isn’t Going to Steal Jobs President Obama’s top economic advisor, Jason Furman, is not worried that robots are going to take our jobs. When it comes to artificial intelligence, his biggest worry at the moment is that we don’t have enough of it. Some see a continuation of what we’ve seen before: new technologies emerge and change the way we do business, and ultimately the economy adapts. Others say AI is going to change the rules of economics, and that robots will create large-scale unemployment and inequality by replacing human jobs. 13. 5 How AI Could Stop Stock Market Cheaters Two exchange operators have announced plans to launch artificial intelligence tools for market surveillance in the coming months and officials at a Wall Street regulator tell Reuters they are not far behind. The software could, for instance, scrub chat-room messages to detect dubious bragging or back-slapping around the time of a big trade. It could also more quickly unravel complex issues, like “layering,” where orders are rapidly sent to exchanges and then canceled to artificially move a stock price.
