  5. Here are the “Top Five” stories highlighting how Deep Learning and AI are accelerating innovation this week… 5

  6. 1 Japanese Robotics Giant Gives Its Arms Some Brains Fanuc, one of the world’s largest makers of industrial robots, announced that it will work with Nvidia, a Silicon Valley chipmaker that specializes in artificial intelligence, to add learning capabilities to its products. The deal is important because it shows how recent advances in AI are poised to overhaul the manufacturing industry. But each time a production run changes, the robots then need to be reprogrammed from scratch, which takes time and technical expertise. 7. 2 Deep Learning Boosts Google Translation Tool Today, Quoc and his colleagues at Google rolled out a new translation system that uses massive amounts of data and increased processing power to build more accurate translations. The new system, a deep learning model known as neural machine translation, effectively trains itself—and reduces translation errors by up to 87%. Neural machine translation has been a latecomer to the game of deep learning, a method of making predictions about everything from effective marketing pitches to potential drug candidates. 8. 3 Logitech’s Webcam Includes Dynamic Background Removal The most important new feature of the webcam is its deep learning-based dynamic background replacement software that lets users change their scenery while broadcasting live or on Skype and WebEx – instead of needing a costly green screen. Powered by Personify’s new ChromoCam technology, the “intelligent shape recognition” software was developed using TITAN X GPUs, CUDA and the cuDNN-accelerated Caffe deep learning framework – which is able to identify the user and automatically cuts the human from the background. 9. 4 How Big Data and AI Impact Investors Retail investors do not always have adequate time to research opportunities for making money. Fortunately, the rise of big data and artificial intelligence (AI) is helping individual investors make more informed investment choices. Big data and AI appear to be here to stay. Through continued use and improvement, the two are likely to continue improving how retail investors grow their money and shape the future of the financial sector. 10. 5 Food Recognition App Counts Calories with Deep Learning The diet app LoseIt! released a new deep learning feature called Snap It that lets users take photos of their food and then it automatically logs the calorie count and nutritional information. Using the NVIDIA DIGITS deep learning training system on four TITAN X GPUs, the company trained their network on a vast database of 230,000 food images and more than 4 billion foods logged by Lose It! users since 2008. “The more people use this, the more it improves,” said Edward W. Lowe, data scientist at Lose It. READ MORE Keep up HERE for the latest applications and breakthroughs using GPU technology Developer News Article 10
