Deep Learning is the fastest-growing field in artificial intelligence (AI). 2
As quoted by top leaders in various industries … 3
Such as Artificial Intelligence … “I think five years from now there will be a number of S&P 500 CEOs that will wish they’d started thinking earlier about their AI strategy.” -Andrew Ng Chief Scientist at Baidu Research Source: Fortune Article 2016 4
Consulting … “AI is poised to transform business in ways we’ve not seen since the impact of computer technology in the late 20th century … Our research demonstrates that as AI matures, it can propel economic growth and potentially serve as a powerful remedy for stagnant productivity and labor shortages of recent decades.” -Paul Daugherty CTO at Accenture Source: Accenture Press Release 2016 5

Here are the “Top Five” stories highlighting how Deep Learning and AI are accelerating innovation this week… 7
1 Deep Learning is Suddenly Changing Your Life “This is deep learning’s Cambrian explosion,” says Frank Chen, a partner at the Andreessen Horowitz venture capital firm, alluding to the geological era when most higher animal species suddenly burst onto the scene. That dramatic progress has sparked a burst of activity. Equity funding of AI-focused startups reached an all-time high last quarter of more than $1 billion, according to the CB Insights research firm. Deep learning, in that vision, could transform almost any industry. READ MORE Keep up with the latest Deep Learning applications HERE FORTUNE Article 8
2 Five Top Database Analytic Solutions that are GPU-Accelerated When you absolutely, positively need to crunch numbers as quickly as possible, you turn to a GPU. Small wonder that most math-intensive applications, including some machine learning frameworks, draw on GPUs to parallelize and accelerate their calculations. GPUs are adept at whipping through calculations at scale, and databases often have exactly those kinds of demands -- for instance, when performing complex joins or row-by-row math. Here are five offerings, three commercial and two open source, that offer database solutions with GPU acceleration as part of the package. 3 Baidu Research Announces New Benchmark for Deep Learning Deep learning developers and researchers want to train neural networks as fast as possible. Right now we are limited by computing performance,” said Dr. Diamos. “The first step in improving performance is to measure it, so we created DeepBench and are opening it up to the deep learning community. We believe that tracking performance on different hardware platforms will help processor designers better optimize their hardware for deep learning applications. 4 Google Open-Sources Image Captioning Intelligence Google released the latest version of their automatic image captioning model that is more accurate, and is much faster to train compared to the original system. “The TensorFlow implementation released today achieves the same level of accuracy with significantly faster performance: time per training step is just 0.7 seconds in TensorFlow compared to 3 seconds in DistBelief on an NVIDIA K20 GPU, meaning that total training time is just 25 percent of the time previously required,” Chris Shallue, Software Engineer of the Google Brain Team wrote in a blog post. 5 Three Industries being Transformed By AI and Big Data Historically, when new technologies become easier to use, they transform industries. That’s what’s happening with artificial intelligence and big data; as the barriers to implementation disappear (cost, computing power, etc.), more and more industries will put the technologies into use, and more and more startups will appear with new ideas of how to disrupt the status quo with these technologies. By my predictions, the AI revolution isn’t coming, it’s already here, and we’ll see it first in a few key sectors.
