  2. Today’s Aims • To introduce the Partners in a Shared Task pilot • To enable participating dioceses to share ideas, experiences and concerns • To explore the practicalities of the pilot • To clarify how the Working Group can best support the pilots

Partners in a Shared Task Renewal of Home-School-Parish partnerships by reflecting on how each articulates a) their own role in passing on faith in God b) what they need of the others to accomplish this c) the other partners’ roles in passing on faith in God d) the support they can in turn offer to them

  4. Partners in a Shared Task Phase 1: Engage with each partner gathering responses to outline questions Phase 2: Compare and contrast responses Phase 3: a) Reflect on current practices in the light of these responses b) Articulate a renewed understanding of home-school-parish partnership

Where has this come from? “As parents, teachers, priests, parish catechists or youth workers ... our roles in the settings of home, parish, school and other centres are complementary yet distinct. We are partners in a shared task. We help the young to grow and develop but we do so in different ways. We need to be clear about our different roles if we are to perform them with confidence. At times we have false expectations of what we can do and we make unrealistic demands of others.” Jim Gallagher (1986) Guidelines: A National Project of Catechesis and Religious Education

The Passing on the Faith National Project • Resourcing and supporting parents and grandparents in their “irreplaceable and inalienable” task of passing on faith in God, • Establishing what passing on the faith means • Identifying the complementary roles, rights and responsibilities of home, school and parish

  7. Where has this come from ? A national Home-School-Parish conversation last year “Revisit HSP partnerships and look at ways to rediscover and promote in communities.” “Build a policy that all these agencies can buy into.” “Hold a home-school-parish conversation in the diocese.” “More conversation –sponsored on local level –involving grandparents, parents and teachers with parish representation.” “Pass this on to dioceses so that they too can invite people to a conversation about passing on the faith – not just catechists, teachers and clergy but parents and families too – it is a shared responsibility
