My work for DANS and BiG Grid includes bridging this gap between technology and researchers
We already have experience with uploading massive amounts of files for the RACM (archaeology).
Although the grid can easily handle large streams, it has a problem with processing large batches of smaller files. Uploading individual files takes far too long. But in the end, grid support took care of the problem.
