  2. GEOMETER’S SKETCHPAD:PLANNING A LESSON Topic: The math topic I am addressing is the Distributive Property of Multiplication over Addition. Reasons: I chose this topic and these virtual manipulative because my students have difficulty understanding this concept. Also, since I teach multiple levels of Math and the Distributive Property occurs in many situations I felt this lesson would be relevant for most of my students. Learning Objectives: Learning Objectives qTo demonstrate the distributive property through numbers, manipulatives and variables qTo use the distributive property in a variety of situations qTo use real-life situations to expand thinking from concrete to abstract reasoning To answer test questions involving the distributive property (MCAS, SAT

  6. When do you use the Distributive Property in Math? Madison Park was painted during the summer.One hallway had three sections.The height of each section was 15 feet. The length of of the three section is 11 feet, 16 feet and 14 feet, respectively. What is the total area of the hallway sections? Solve the problems using two methods. Use the construction paper to model the problem. Discussion Questions:What do you noticed about the answers? Which method do you prefer? Why?
