NSIDC AMSR-E TB and Snow Product Activities Status (Armstrong and Brodzik) • Tested modifications to passive microwave SWE algorithm to mitigate microwave “overmeasure” of snow at high altitude (Tibet Plateau) locations, when compared to visible snow maps; collaborated with Jim Wang (GSFC) on atmospheric correction to adjust for thinner atmosphere at high altitude locations • Investigated AMSR-E scan edge contamination issue raised by Steven Chan (JPL); modified NSIDC swath-to-grid toolkit for users to make their own decision on how much of the scan edge to include; recently provided our investigation results to Steven, to confirm that our changes have the expected (corrected) result on his soil moisture algorithm output • By popular demand from users of our software toolkit (ftp://sidads.colorado.edu/pub/tools/pmsdt/) we are gridding and publicly distributing AMSR-E EASE-Grid (North, South and Global) and quarter-degree global gridded TBs • Updated our MODIS+AMSR-E blended snow product; scheduled for public availability this fall Joint AMSR-E Science Team Meeting Ron Weaver, Amanda Leon - NSIDC DAAC 14-16 August 2007

AS2GT: AMSR-E Swath-to-Grid Toolkit • NSIDC’s Ken Knowles developed AS2GT. • The AMSR-E Swath-to-Grid Toolkit (AS2GT) is a suite of software tools to subset and grid Levels 1B and 2A AMSR-E swath data. • AS2GT makes it possible to quickly and easily work with the AMSR-E data in ways that may not be available in the Level 3 gridded data sets. • This toolkit allows you to process data into custom grids with whatever temporal or spatial resolution you require. • AS2GT maintains the highest data quality for your application by giving you control over map projection, number of samples per day, input resolution and interpolation method. • Gridding options in AS2GT include: • Map projection • Resolution and grid dimensions • Resampling method • How to handle overlapping swaths • Subsetting by time or region Joint AMSR-E Science Team Meeting Ron Weaver, Amanda Leon - NSIDC DAAC 14-16 August 2007
