Teaching in 2010 & Beyond

1. Teaching in 2010 & Beyond What it takes to be an effective teacher in the year 2010 and beyond? EDP 128 Assignment 2 by Sarah Matheson, Melissa Robinson, Craig Winchcombe, Sarah Montefiore & Nora Lopes.

2. What will effect how we teach in the future: Technology. Learning Theories. Multi-Cultural society. Content. Virtual classrooms. Interaction with schools in other countries (Globalization and digital communication). Will one teacher classrooms disappear?

3. Teachers of today • Unfortunately there are still educators in today’s society that are stuck in the old rote memorisation learning, lecturing, passing on information and not exploring or motivating students to learn. They are stuck in one teaching mode in the same old dull way, with dry lectures, boring worksheets and text books, repetition and drill. This would prove ghastly  boring for the students. 

4. The education system has already started its transition into the future moving from an emphasis on teaching to an emphasis on the learning taking place in the classroom. 

5. Teachers of the 21st century  • "The 21st century teacher is fluent in tools and technologies that enable communication and collaboration. They go beyond learning just how to communicate and collaborate; they also know how to: • facilitate, • stimulate • control, • moderate • manage communication and      collaboration

7. Benefits of using tecnology in the classroom • Technology helps learners connect with their communities and the global community. Learners have information at their finger tips and can source information on a global scale. Students will research and communicate on the internet learning through video links with renowned experts in their own field

19.  Could be used as a final qoute. • "Unfortunately, new technologies are no panacea for problems in education and by themselves they at most enable, rather than create, change. It is ironic that the research showing how powerful computers can be ultimately brings us back to the idea that it is teachers who make the difference." (Bruce, 2002, p. 17).
