Ilomantsi Model Forest • Population: of 5,876 • Area: 3,172.69 km2 (409.01 km2 is water) • Population density is 2.13 inhabitants per km2 • The area of natural reserves: 250 km2 • The idea was proposed already in 2001. • In 2009 the meeting of International Model Forest Network was organized at Mekrijärvi Research Station of University of Eastern Finland. • Recognized by IMFN as a model forest in September 2013 Eugene Lopatin
