  5. School Truancy Active behavior: • To disrupt the class • To provoke expulsion • No cooperation Passive behavior: • Apparent adaption, but... • Resignation • Daydreaming, inner withdrawal

  6. School Truancy School interaction: • Active: the trouble maker – lots of conflict with everybody • Passive: the loner – no friends, not integrated

Days of Absence (School Distance Model after Thimm) First Degree: To turn away from the teaching without attracting attention To turn away with attracting attention to oneself Second Degree: To stay away now and then without good reason To come too late To miss classes To miss a day every now and then but not more than 10 days per semester Third Degree: Regular absences without good reason To miss 11 to 20 days per semester Fourth Degree: Intensive and regular absences without good reason To miss 21 to 40 days per semester, but still attend Fifth Degree: Complete absence from school To miss more than 40 days, complete withdrawl

  13. Case Example II • Pupil is often late for school • Pupil misses classes • Pupil has bad marks • But he wants to change! • How we develope small aims:

Case Example III New girl at school (third school within 10 weeks) • Passive, quiet, no friends Truancy • After two weeks she doesn‘t come anymore Case Manager visits at home • Mental problems suspected Referral to youth psychologist • Stationary therapy in the paediatric psychiatry for 6 weeks • Stay in contact during the therapy Case Conference with Youth Welfare Office • Referral to a specialised school for 1 year Regular attendance at new school
