Lesson 8-3: Percents Greater than 100 or less than 1.Objective:We will learn to use percents that are less than 1%.We will also learn to use percents that are greater than 100%.
When a soccer coach tells you, “To win a game, you’ve got to give 110%.” What did the coach mean? • How do you know when a percent is greater than 100% or less than 1%? • In a fraction, when the numerator is bigger than the denominator the percent is greater than 100%. • In a fraction, when the numerator is smaller than the denominator the percent is between 1% and 100%. • When you are not sure, rewrite the fractions or decimals as percents, if the percent is a decimal the percent is less than 1%.
Examples: • Classify each fraction or decimal as: (A) Less than 1%, (B) greater than 100%, or (C) between 1% and 100%. • 240 = = 100 • 0.0001= = • 1 = = 4 • Use <, >, = to compare the numbers in each pair. 9% _______ 0.009 13 10 ________ 130% • Write each fraction or decimal as a percent. 70 = _____________ 25 .0604 = __________ • Write the percent as a decimal. • 2000% = ____________ • 8% = ______________
