Definition of EC • EC is the use of computer applications communicating over networks to allow buyers and sellers to complete a transaction or part of an transaction. • 电子商务是指运用计算机应用软件在网络上通信,使买卖双方完成整个交易或部分交易。
Definition of EC • It means using simple, fast and low-cost electronic communications to transact, without face-to-face meeting between the two parties of the transaction. Now, it is mainly done through Internet and Electronic Data Interchange (EDI). • 电子商务意味着采用简单、快捷和低成本的电子通信手段进行交易,而无需交易双方面对面的会晤。今天,电子交易主要是通过网络或电子数据交换来完成。
How is e-business(电子业务) different from EC(电子商务)? • In some instances, the terms are used interchangeably. But to purists, e-commerce refers only to online transactions. How is e-business(电子业务) different from EC(电子商务)? • In other words, EB refers to a broad definiton of EC, not only buying and selling, but also servicing customers, collaborating with business partners, and conducting electronic transactions within an organization. According to Lou Gerstner, IBM’s formal CEO, “e-business is all about time, cycle, speed, globalization, enhanced productivity, reaching new customers, and sharing knowledge across institutions for competitive advantage.” So we can use the term EC in its broadest scope, as basically equivalent to e-business.
The Development of EC • E-commerce was first developed in the 1960s. With the wide use of computer, the maturity and the wide adoption of Internet, the permeation of credit cards, the establishment of secure transaction agreement and the support and promotion by governments, the development of E-commerce is becoming prosperous, with people starting to use electronic means as the media of doing business.
