THERE’S A MESSAGE IN THE MIRACLE!
Doubt in your heart is more than being cautious…it is a deep seated conviction that is not true!
“…whoever says to this mountain, ‘Be removed and be cast into the sea,’ and does not doubt in his heart, but believes that those things he says will be done, he will have whatever he says.”MARK 11:23
“And immediately Jesus stretched out His hand and caught him, and said to him, ‘O you of little faith, why did you doubt?’”MATTHEW 14:31
THE SECOND MIRACLE…A NOBLEMAN’S SON WAS HEALEDJOHN 4:45-54 • Let’s look at the miracle…then let’s search for the message
JESUS RETURNS TO CANA OF GALILEEJOHN 4:45-46 • “…Galileans received Him, having seen all the things He did in Jerusalem…” – v. 45 • “…there was a certain nobleman whose son was sick at Capernaum.” – v. 46
FOUR OBSTACLES TO A STRONG FAITHJOHN 4:46-47 • Secondhand Faith • “When he heard that Jesus had come…” • Capernaum was 20 miles from Cana of Galilee
The nobleman did what any of us would do…but there is a message in the miracle • The purpose of the seven selected miracles in John were that we might believe in Jesus – JOHN 20:31
Sign Seeking Faith • The Nobleman Had Three Problems • A deathly ill son • A “hope-so” possibility • He was not a believer
“Unless you people see signs and wonders, you will by no means believe.”JOHN 4:48
A KEY TO UNLOCK THE MESSAGEJOHN 4:49-50 • “Sir, come down before my child dies!” • “Go your way; your son lives.”
Self-Centered Faith • The nobleman came to Jesus with a physical need…not a spiritual need • The nobleman has yet to become a believer in Jesus Christ
Strong-Willed Faith • The nameless nobleman was accustomed to giving orders • “Sir, come down before my child dies!” • He was controlling the situation
Faith is not dictating to God. It is hearing…believing… and acting on God’s Word!
FINALLY THE NOBELMAN GETS ITJOHN 4:50 • Hearing… “Go your way; your son lives.” • Believing…“The man believed the word that Jesus spoke…” • Acted…“…and he went his way.”
HE LEFT THE NEXT DAYJOHN 4:51-53 • 24 hours later he meets his servants… • “Your son lives!” • “What hour did this happen?”
The servants said, “About the seventh hour.” • The nobleman said, “…it was the same hour Jesus said, ‘Your son lives!’” – v. 53
He sent His Word and healed them – PSALM 107:20 • The nobleman believed for the healing of his son – JOHN 4:50 • He believed for his salvation – JOHN 4:53 • He had gone beyond the miracleto Jesus
