English • There are eight English lessons per week. • Four lessons for the PLP-RW scheme with the NET. • The NET lessons are held in the English room. • English reward scheme promotes the use of English inside and outside the classroom.
Chinese • Eight lessons per week. • Taught in Cantonese. One lesson in • Putonghua per week. • Start from the very beginning teaching strokes and character formation. • Co-operative learning.
Mathematics • Six lessons per week. • School based support scheme. • Games and activities are used to support learning. • Weekly math's fun day. • Co-operative learning.

Parents Strategies Psychology: • Visit new school with child • Introduce school life of P.1 in advanced Daily: • Develop personal time scheduleaccommodating school life • Give more training about putting on clothes/shoes/socks; eating lunch; cleaning after eating/going to toilet independently • Help to eliminate tricks, remind your child to be polite
Parents Strategies Studying(during summer holiday): • Buy books and things earlier,teach your child to put things in order e.g. tidy up school bag • Introduce how to note homework, what books will be used for different subjects, rules in classroom, what dictation/exams are • Participate in Guidance Day for New Students (15~19/7/2013 and 30/8/2013) Studying(in September): • Teach methods of how to finish homework, encourage your child to ask for help if needed
Parents Strategies Studying(in September): • Teach methods to avoid forgetting to finish homework/bring things to school, at the same time check for your child until mastering the skills • Teach methods to study • Contact the school more often to understand how well your child is doing • Ask for help from teachers or social worker when your child having problems to accommodate
Parents Strategies • Give more encouragement, believe your child can do it 2.Arrange chatting time or activities for your child to relax 3.Demonstrate how to do, give simple and clear instructions
The School Day • Students need to arrive before 8:15am • Normally leave at 4pm • The first three days in September are half days. Students leave at 12:10pm. (parents pick up/ school bus) • Every Wednesday, students leave at 2:30pm • There are eight teaching periods and one class teacher’s period every day. • We have special timetables for exam periods and activity weeks.
Homework, Assessments and Exams • There is homework for English, Mathematics and Chinese every day, other subjects when required. • There is one assessment per year for Chinese and Mathematics and English. • We adapt formative assessment for P1 and P2 students in English teaching. (portfolio, HFW tests) • There are three exam periods per year for all subjects . We have a special timetable for these periods.
Expectations • Students are expected to hand in homework on time. • If they do not hand in homework for 5 times they receive a written warning. After 3 warnings, they will receive a de-merit. • Students are expected to be on time for school every day. • If they are late for 3 times they receive a written warning. After 3 warnings, they will receive a de-merit. Details of warnings and de-merits can be seen in the student handbook.
Lunches Lunches can be purchased from our lunch provider on monthly bases. (also provides vegetarian choice) Parents can provide lunch for the students, they must be delivered to school before 12:10pm.
Visual Arts Supplies Parents need to provide the followings: • Child-proof scissors • A glue stick • Colouring pencils • An art mat • A bag to put them in Optional: • An apron • Sleeve protectors Crayons are on the book list and will be returned at the end of the year.
Stationery Parents need to provide: • At least 3 pencils (sharpened) • A rubber • A ruler • A soft pencil case to put them in Reminder: Everything must be labeled with the child’s full name.
Uniform Parents can order the formal and PE summer uniform in June or July. Winter uniformcan be ordered in October or November. PE uniform: The students need to wear white socks and plain white shoes. Formal uniform: The students need to wear white socks and black shoes. (a white vest as underwear)
Appearance Boys’ hairstyle • Side burns cannot be longer than the student’s ears. • Hair should be short and neat.
Appearance Girls’ hairstyle • Fridge must not cover the student’s eyes. • Long hair must be kept in a ponytail. • They must use plain black hair clips.
Handbook Parents need to sign page 2 of the handbook as signature proof. Parents need to fill in the student’s information page in the handbook. • Need to include an emergency contact. • Need to include a photo of the child wearing their school uniform with the school logo showing. If a student is sick, parents need to fill in details on the student’s medical information page in the handbook. Parents need to check and sign the handbook every day.
