  3. Education/CRCE ActivitiesScoring Need at least 15 points to achieve excellence How many total credits have you offered in the past year? Include all credits (traditional and non-traditional). 0 to 15 credits 1 point 16 to 30 credits 2 points 31 to 45 credits 3 points 46 to 60 credits 4 points 61 to 75 credits 5 points > 75 credits 6 points Number of credits for the year/number of members in state x100 to 2 1 point 2.1 to 3 2 points 3.1 to 4 3 points 4.1 to 5 4 points 5.1 to 6 5 points > 6.1 6 points

Education/CRCE Activities Scoring • Education/CRCE Activities • How many separate traditional educational events have you offered in the last year? 1 point for each offering • How many nontraditional or web based credits have you offered in the past year? 1 point for each offering • How many credits are required per year to maintain licensure in your state? 2 points for requiring at least 15 each year

Membership, Recruiting and RetentionScoring Need 8 points to achieve excellence Points will be awarded based on the following criteria: Total ACTIVE membership Increase by 10% in one year award period 5 pts Increase by 5% in one year award period 3 pts Increase by 3% in one year award period 1 pt Increase by 0-3% in one year award period 0 pts Decrease in one year award period -2 pts

  7. Membership, Recruiting and RetentionScoring • Membership Percentage of Licensed Therapists • > 50% membership at end of year 5 pts • > 40% membership at end of year 4 pts • > 30% membership at end of year 3 pts • > 20% membership at end of year 2 pts • < 20% membership at end of year 0 pts

Membership, Recruiting and RetentionScoring • State Membership Activities (1 pt for each of the following activities) • Offer reduced registration for AARC members at all state affiliate sponsored events • Utilize discount membership voucher program • Perform at least one state affiliate sponsored membership drive during the year • State affiliate membership committee with chair other than affiliate President

  9. MEMBERSHIP, Recruiting and Retention: TIPS • Membership drives at all RT events • Discount membership vouchers • Membership committee on affiliate board • Drawing for free memberships at state meeting • Purchase membership for RT of the month, quarter, year, etc..

Legislative ActivitiesScoring Need a total of 10 points to achieve excellence Legislative Committee as one of your affiliate committees PACT participation A fully represented and active 435 team for your state Employment of a lobbyist Activities to engage members in legislative activities like a booth at your state convention to promote a letter writing campaign to support legislature Action on your licensure bill to either protect or expand it Active licensure board activities Meetings with congressional representatives either on the state or national levels.

Legislative ActivitiesScoring • You will receive points for each activity that you have participated in as follows: • Legislative Committee 2 points • PACT participation 2 points • Employment of Lobbyist 2 points • Fully represented and active 435 team 2 points • Activities to engage the membership in legislative activities 1 point for each activity • Activities to defend or expand licensure bill 5 points • Meetings with congressional representatives 2 points each

Legislative Activities:TIPS • Legislative committee on affiliate board • Paid lobbyist • PACT participation • Active in state legislative activities • 435 Plan • Aggressive “contact your representative” at all meetings including having computer access to write letters • Lung health screenings at state capital for representatives, legislators

Promoting Public AwarenessScoring Need a total of 15 points to achieve excellence Public relations can play a very important role in an association like the American Association for Respiratory Care. It can contribute to influencing local, state and national government officials on legislation the AARC supports, and it can improve the overall image of the Association's members and the respiratory therapy profession

Promoting Public AwarenessScoring • A public relations team as one of your affiliate committees • Special event such as: COPD Awareness Day, Lung Health day, Drive4COPD • Open Houses • 10K runs • Free early screenings • Public Service Announcements (PSAs) • Advocacy events • Smoking prevention or lung health to children • Asthma camps • Asthma awareness to school teachers • OpEds • Occupational health screenings • Pulmonary self-care programs

Promoting Public AwarenessScoring • You will receive points for each activity that you have participated in as follows: • 10K runs, tennis, or golf tournaments or other sporting events- 2 points • Putting words to paper: press releases, Media Alerts, Pitch Letters, and Op-eds 2 points • Open Houses for prospective RCPs- 2 points • Quarterly activities to promote the RC profession- 2 points • Activities to engage the membership in public awareness 1 point for each activity • Special Events with screening opportunities for public- 5 points • Speaking engagements, lectures, and briefings on a RC Topic 2 points each • Public Awareness committee on affiliate Board 1 point

Promoting Public Awareness:TIPS • Public relations/health promotions committee on affiliate board • Public health screenings/health fairs • Community outreach activities-volunteerism • PTA meetings, school career days, open houses, high school health career clubs • 10K runs, teams at health related walk/runs, 5K vent run • Floats in Holiday parades • Respiratory Care Week proclamation with press release • Participate with asthma camps • Drive4COPD Adopt-a-company • Senior Center Events – health screenings • Peak Performance USA

  17. Benefits to MembershipScoring This section has a possibility of 20 points. A total of 15 points is needed to achieve excellence. Affiliate Web Page 2 points Does your State Society sponsor scholarships for Respiratory Care students in your states programs? $100 to $500 2 points $500 to $1,000 3 points $1,000 to $2,000 4 points > $2,000 5 points

Benefits to MembershipScoring • Does your state affiliate offer logo ware (i.e. pins, t-shirts, sweat shirts coffee cups etc.) to your members? 3 points • Does your state affiliate sponsor membership get-togethers such as golf tournaments, social events etc.. where members have the opportunity to meet each other? 2 points • Offer discounted fees for Affiliate sponsored conferences? 2 points • Offer chapter, district or other regional meetings, educational offerings or other membership activities? 2 points

  19. Benefits to Membership:TIPS • Logo items at all meetings • Member activities: picnics, bowling nights, theater nights, golf tournaments, attend ALA Oxygen Balls • Member discount at meetings • PACT chairs invite members in districts to join the meetings with state representatives

Collaboration with other health care organizations Scoring Need a total of 4 points to achieve excellence Affiliate member on state Thoracic Society 2 points Affiliate collaborates with initiatives to promote patient advocacy or the profession 2 points Affiliate work with other physician organizations 2 points Affiliate work with other multidisciplinary groups like nursing, pharmacy, etc.. 2 points

  21. Collaboration with other health care organizations: TIPS • Partner with DHEC for disaster preparedness • Medical Reserve Core • COPD coalition • Lung Association • School Nurses Association • Sports Medicine Clinics • High School medical health programs: HOSEA, MedPro, MACH

Student Activities/LeadershipMentoring Scoring Need a total of 15 points to achieve excellence State Society partners with Respiratory Initiative group to promote RC profession to prospective students Offer professional observations 2 points Offer presentations to high school or middle school groups 2 points Designated Job Shadow Day during Respiratory Care Week 2 points Quarterly (or biannual?) meetings 2 points Student attendance and/or participation at State Society BOD meetings 2 points

Student Activities/LeadershipMentoring Scoring • Student participation in any activities/events in other categories, i.e. social events, health screening events, RC week events, chapter meetings, etc.. 2 points • State Society has a student track at annual conference 2 points • Student Sputum Bowl Team 2 points • Student poster presentations or other competition 2 points • State Society incorporates team building/strategic planning/leadership training into BOD meetings 2 points

Student Activities/Leadership Mentoring Scoring • State Society sponsors Student and/or Practitioner of the Year Awards 2 points • State Society partners with Lambda Beta National Honor Society 1 point • State Society publications congratulate RC program graduates and newly credentialed individuals 1 point • 100% of RC program faculty are AARC/State Society members 1 point • State Society (at local/chapter level) participation in event to welcome incoming RC program student cohort (i.e. student picnic); participation in graduation related event 1 point

Student Activities/Leadership Mentoring:TIPS • Student breakout sessions at meetings • Attend RT graduations or pinning ceremonies • New students shadow therapist • Presentations at middle and high schools • RT students involvement in public awareness activities-perform lung screenings, etc.. • Student scholarships • Student poster presentations at meetings • Student representative on affiliate board • Student page on web site • 100% RC program faculty are AARC/affiliate members • Affiliate has leadership training and orientation for BOD members • Student mentors

Overall Scoring Committee will evaluate applications and score each section appropriately per criteria in each section The total score will be tallied with the sections weighted as follows: Legislative Activities 20% Benefits to Membership 20% Education/CRCE Activities 15% Student Activities/Leadership Mentoring 15% Collaboration with other health care organizations 10% Membership, Recruiting and Retention 10% Promoting Public Awareness 10% Any Affiliate that achieves excellence in a section will be recognized The Affiliate that achieves the highest score will win the Summit Award
