Rules of Action Verbs • An action verb is a word that shows action. It tells what the subject of a sentence does or did.
Name the action verb in each sentence. • 1. Our class played a song. • 2. Caroline blew the whistle. • 3. Sam banged a gong. • 4. Noah rang the bell. • 5. Ali struck the cymbal.
Replace the underlined verb with a new action verb. • 1. Our class played a song. • 2. Caroline blew the whistle. • 3. Sam banged a gong. • 4. Noah rang the bell. • 5. Ali struck the cymbal.

Pull a Verb Activity (if you didn’t do this on Day 1) • Students will pull a verb from the bag and act out that verb. • The audience will try to guess the action verb being performed.
Top Ten Verbs • Think of as many different strong verbs as you can. Make a list of the ones you think are super! We will create a Top Ten with the words you have suggested for the 5th grade.

Your turn: • 1. Choose a person who is important to you. • 2. Lists things they do-make sure they are actions you can see. • 3. Create an action verb poem about your chosen person. • 4. Write your poem on the card I give you.
