General ACT Tips Date all KY high school juniors will take ACT: Tuesday, March 15
General ACT Tips Bring these items with you to the test: • Pencil • Calculator with new batteries • Will be provided if you don’t have one • Pre-program formulas, etc. prior to test • Watch for keeping time • Photo ID • Snack • But you cannot eat it until break!
General ACT Tips Tips: • Dress in layers • Wear comfortable clothes • If you are supposed to wear glasses, don’t forget to bring them • Get plenty of rest • Be prepared to “give up” all electronic devices
General ACT Tips Tips: • Leave early for school. If you are late, you cannot take the test! • Eat a good breakfast • Breakfast will be provided for all students taking the test • BUT don’t eat something your body is not used to eating! (You don’t want “stomach issues” in the middle of the test!)
General ACT Tips Taking the test: • The test is always in this order: • English • Math • Reading • Science
General ACT Tips Taking the test: • Pay attention to the answer grid • Grid in groups for better time efficiency • Recommended: one page at a time
General ACT Tips Taking the test: • Answer grid is as follows: • Odd questions: abcde • Even questions: fghjk
General ACT Tips Taking the test: • Be sure your marks are heavy and dark • Erase any stray lines on your answer sheet • When time is called…STOP!!!!! • If you do not, your score could be voided
General ACT Tips Timing the test: • It is recommended that you bring a watch • Set your watch for 12:00 at the beginning of each section in order to better track your time • Sorry, but you CANNOT use the watch on your cell phone!
General ACT Tips Timing the test: • Do NOT read directions the day of the test! • (Review directions now)
General ACT Tips Timing the test: • With five minutes to go: • Begin “marking answers” with your chosen letter • After doing this, go back and change answers; answer questions that you can do quickly • Example: for Reading—vocabulary and line placement questions
General ACT Tips Also: • Be sure to have a mark for EVERY answer. Even if you “ran out of time,” you still should have bubbled in an answer • You are encouraged to write in your test booklet. Use it to mark passages, make notes, use triage / elimination, work out problems, etc.
General ACT Tips Also: • Don’t forget to use these multiple choice strategies: • Triage • Elimination
General ACT Tips And finally: • Remember, the higher your score, the more $$$ you will get!
