ObjectivesI will be able to define plot after participating in interactive activities with whole group, with a Partner, and individually. I will create a bookmark to help me remember how to use the retelling Strategy and retelling guide when reading fiction to help me write a summary of a story.I will create a Plot foldable to help me show my understanding of how to determine plot. Elements of Plot
What is PLOT? Something happens to someone somewhere. Elements of Plot • Introduction to characters and their conflict • Complications (events leading to rising action) • Climax (most exciting moment) • Resolution (ending) What happened?
Introduction to characters and their conflict • The first part of plot tells you about the story’s basic situation. • It answers the questions: Who is the main character? What is the conflict (struggle for the character)? Types of conflict: person vs. person (two characters opposing each other) person vs. environment (setting is in nature) person vs. society (character against a group of people) person vs. self (internal struggle)
Complications • Characters face problems. • These are the events, referred to as the rising action, that lead up to the climax. Rising Action: Events Introduction to characters and their conflict
Climax • How characters try to solve their problem. • How the conflict will turn out – the most exciting moment of the story. Climax
Resolution • Characters’ problems are solved and the story ends. • Final part of the plot Resolution (ending)
