Fonts cont’d: • Serif fonts: • Example: Times New Roman • Has decorative lines or curves • Considered easier to read • San Serif Fonts: • Example: Arial • Has a cleaner look • No lines or curves • Typically used for documents with a lot of text
Text Alignment: • Left-Aligned • Text is lined up at the left margin and ragged on the right margin • Centered • Text is equal from the both edges of the page • Right-Aligned • Text is lined up at the right margin • Justified • Text is aligned at both the left and right margins
Text Spacing: • Fonts that have different widths for different characters have proportional spacing. • The space that separates blocks of text and other elements on a page or screen is known as white space. • Monospaced characters in a font all have the same width • The amount of space between characters is specified by tracking.
Special Formatting and Effects • Characters that use the text format called outlining have a hollow look. • A number, letter, or symbol appearing slightly above the character next to it is a superscript. Example: s

Formats: • File Format refers to the way a document is saved on a disk • A text format is .rtf • The default file format for: • Microsoft Word - .doc • Excel - .xls • PowerPoint – ppt.
Terms to know: • Bullet: A small graphic symbol used to distinguish items in a list • Presentation: A series of slides with or without animation and audio • Kiosk: A stand-alone display unit for giving information or for advertising • Anti-Aliasing: Using software to smooth jagged edges of a font or graphic
