Today, we will… • Talk about eBooks and eBook readers • Show you how to get started for the first time with your NOOK, Kindle, iPad or other mobile device • Demonstrate how to search for and download library eBooks • Demonstrate how to put the eBook on your device • Answer your questions about borrowing library eBooks
What’s an eBook? • E = Electronic • Not every book has an eBook version • Use your e-reader device or your computer to read an eBook
Library eBook Basics • Library eBooks are similar to regular library books • Take out 10 maximum at a time • Checkout for 1, 2, or 3 weeks • They “expire” after the due date • But NO FINES! • Want to renew? You need to go back & checkout again • You can return eBooks early • Like library books, eBooks can only be read by one person at a time • For example, if someone has already checked out the eBook you want, and there are no other copies available, you can place a request on it • You will be notified when it’s your turn to download the eBook • You have 3 days to get the eBook after you are notified

Audiobooks • We offer audiobooks online too! • Download Overdrive Media Console (OMC) to your computer • Need an audio device to transfer files & listen • Ex.) iPod • Checkout for 7-21 days

Install Adobe Digital Editions • Go to Adobe Digital Editions website • Link on Overdrive website or at http://www.adobe.com/products/digital-editions.html • Click “Download Now” on right side
Install Adobe Digital Editions • Select Macintosh or Windows link to install program • Click the “Save File” button to start the download
Install Adobe Digital Editions • Save the file to your Desktop • Download file • On the Desktop, double-click the ADE 2.0 Installer folder • Next screen Click “Run” • Follow the instructions through the next few windows Click “Next”
Install Adobe Digital Editions • Program will save in the Program Files folder • Click “Install” • Progress bar will appear • When installation is complete, click “Done” • Adobe Digital Editions will open
Get an Adobe ID • Requires an Adobe ID email & password • What’s an Adobe ID? • email & password registered with Adobe to save your eBook info • Click “Get an Adobe ID” if you don’t have one • Takes you to Adobe’s website • Follow the steps • Use same email that your NOOK is registered with • Click “Create”
Enter Adobe ID • Go back to Adobe Digital Editions • Enter your Adobe ID email & password • Turn your NOOK on • Plug the NOOK into the USB port on your computer • NOOK will appear on the left side

Register your Kindle with Amazon.com • Did you register your Kindle on Amazon’s website? • YES – You are ready to borrow eBooks! Remember your Amazon email & password. • NO – Follow these steps to register your Kindle. • Go to amazon.com/manageyourkindle • Type in your email address • Select “No, I am a new customer.” • Click “Sign in using our secure server” button
Create an Amazon account • Answer the statements on the next page • Click “Create Account”
Register your Kindle • Amazon creates your account • Now it takes you to “Your Account Manage your Kindle” webpage • Click “Register a Kindle” on left side • Enter the Kindle’s serial number • Find it in Kindle Settings screen under “Device Info”
Ready for eBooks • Remember your Amazon email & password • Have your USB cord (same cord that charges your Kindle) ready… • If you don’t have wireless Internet • If the eBook you want tells you to transfer by USB only • Ready to search & download eBooks!

Download the OMC App • For NOOK / iPad / iPhone / iPod Touch • Go to the App Store • Search for Overdrive Media Console (OMC) app • Download the free app • Register with an Adobe ID • For Android devices • Go to Google Play • Search for OMC app • Download the free app • Register with an Adobe ID
Get an Adobe ID • Open the OMC app Find the settings button • In the app settings, you need to enter an Adobe ID • What’s an Adobe ID? • email & password registered with Adobe to save your eBook info • Click “Get a free Adobe ID” if you don’t have one • Takes you to Adobe’s website • Follow the steps • Use same email that your device is registered with • Click “Create”
Enter Adobe ID in OMC • Go back to the OMC app • Go into the app settings • Enter your new Adobe ID email & password • Click “Authorize”
Add a Library • Tap “Get Books” to open your library list • Tap “Add a Library” to open the Library Finder screen • Enter your library’s name, city, or zip code in the “Search” box. Tap “Search”.
Add a Library • Tap “Abington Free Library” or your MCLINC library • Tap the star next to “Montgomery County-Norristown Public Library” Abington Free Library Montgomery County-Norristown Public Library
Select Library • Go back to “Get Books” • “Montgomery County” is saved in your list • Click this library each time you want to search & download library eBooks Montgomery County-Norristown Public Library
