The fashion savant • BEFORE: • degrees in Finance and Fine Arts • stylist for Ralph Lauren • co-worker told him about auditions for the show. • DURING: • quick-witted • picks a part closets with the “victim” • picks stores that are practical for each guy • makes the guy perform a fashion show • AFTER: • recently on Dancing with the Stars • hosted How to Look Good Naked • starred in his own show Carson-Nation • appears on talk shows to give advice • New York Times best-selling author. CARSON KRESSLEY

Grooming guru • BEFORE: • Certification from Aveda Institute in New York • Worked as a colorist • Appearances on What Not to Wear • Client suggested audition • DURING: • “you know the great thing about disposable razors, • they’re disposable.” • Figures out what hair care techniques • and fragrances will work best for the man • Spa techniques • Often seen as the most attractive of the Fab Five • AFTER: • Host and hairdresser of TLC’s, 10 Years Younger • Guest appearances on Rachel Ray KYAN DOUGLAS

Food & wine connoisseur • BEFORE: • NYU- M.A. in Journalism, Purdue- B.A. in psychology • Feature stories for Chicago • Contributing editor to Esquire magazine since 1997 • A friend in NY called to tell him about the auditions • DURING: • Inspects kitchen and pantry for eating habits • Takes the guy to a local place to purchase good food • Shows how to make a meal or dessert • and what drink goes with it • AFTER: • Judge on Top Chef (first four seasons) and Iron Chef America • Host on Chopped • Guest and contributor to Best Thing I Ever Ate TED ALLEN

Culture vulture • BEFORE: • Broadway roles of Angel in Rent and Zanna in Zanna, Don’t! • DURING: • Originally casted as a replacement, but stuck around • Updates music and art work • Gives presents relating to the theme of that particular episode • Teaches the guys how to be more romantic • Gives tips on social interactions • AFTER: • Played Sabu in the film version of The Producers • Guest starred on Nip/ Tuck • Appeared in the music video Telephone as a newscaster • Barney Stinson’s brother’s husband in How I Met Your Mother • Performs in an improv group, Cookin’ With Gas JAI RODRIGUEZ

  9. controversy • Many people think this show stereotypes gay people and it was a step back for the gay community. • Stereotypes: • - all gay men dress well • - all gay men know about food and drinks • - all gay men are eccentric and flamboyant • - all gay men have good hygiene • - all gay men are up to date with the latest music, plays, musicals, movies, and art • - all gay men have nice, clean, and neat homes • The opposition says that they don’t take it offensively but find it funny and entertaining.
