  4. Principle of Laser Refractive Surgery • Cornea contributes 2/3 of the refraction of the eye • If we can decrease the convergence power of the eye, we can correct myopia • We can use the excision power of the laser to flatten the central cornea and correct myopia

  5. LASIK-Technique • The microkeratome makes a horizontal cut on the cornea • Slice is not excised completely • A tongue like flap is removed to one side • The laser is applied in the usual manner • The flap is replaced and sticks in place

  6. LASIK-Lamellar Cut

  7. Horizontal-First Cut

  8. Flap is lifted to a side

  9. Flattening with the laser

  10. LASIK-REFRACTIVE CHANGE

  11. LASIK-FLAP REPLACED
