  2. Today’s Episodes • Episode 1 – The Mystery of the Disappearing Budget • Episode 2 – The Case of the Missing Payment • Episode 3 – The Angry Mob • Episode 4 – The Case of the Dismembered Budget

  3. Episode 1 - Description • There has been a mysterious disappearance of budget. The crime scene suggests that the problem is widespread. However, determine if one area is suffering worse than others.

  4. Episode 1 - Solution • Begin with Expenditures by Department • Show Only on Budget • Nest Budget Reference in Columns • Show Only 10,11 & 12 Budgets • Export to Excel • Return to Report -- Graph and Chart • Pivot Chart • Variations – individual department level (Leaf Descendents)

  5. Episode 2 - Description • An angry vendor calls accusing you of not paying your bills. They threaten bodily harm …. Initial investigation suggests they have been paid … PROVE IT!

Episode 2 - Solution • Solve 2 ways --- first by Vendor, • Top 50 Vendor by Spend • Show Only on SCW, Drill to Detail, Show ability to “Drill Down To” Invoice Number • If Vendor not displayed in Report – Search “Blankenship” from Data Layout, Edit on Vendor, Search • By Account (Know $3300 for Printing, Blankenship) • Printing account, Drill Enhanced Journal • Sort by Amount (could search), click AP Details • Variations - Could begin with Department Report

  7. Episode 3 - Description • A mob of students has surrounded the Admin Building. They are demanding money for Student Assistants. The crime scene shows signs of payments already made to the students.

  8. Episode 3 - Solution • Recognize the mob is from Campus Life Dept • Expenditures by Account, Expand PS, * Drill Down Mode - Non-Faculty, Show Only on Student Assistants • Drill Enhanced Journal on Actuals, Show Accounting, Search on Dept 3710000, scroll to payroll details, note they were recently paid.

  9. Episode 4 - Description • One of our own investigators secretly wants to dismember a budget … they want to cut it into tiny pieces by fund, program, class, account …..

  10. Episode 4 - Solution • Begin with Expenditures by Fund • Show Only on E&G • Drill Down to by Department • Take Academic Affairs and Drill Down to by Account • Take Personal Services and Drill Down to by Class • Take General and Drill Down to by Program • Click on Information Icon to see drill path • Alternative Approach – Nesting (Fund and Class)
