There are several forms of precipitation: • Drizzle • Rain • Snow • Sleet: rain freezes as it falls • Freezing rain: rain freezes as it hits a cold surface • Hail: balls or irregular clumps of ice. Kinds of Precipitation
Hailstones begin as a frozen raindrop (ice) • When the ice falls, it gets pushed back up into the air and another layer of ice forms. • Then it falls again, and another updraft pushes it up again. • The stronger the updrafts the larger the hailstones. HAIL!
