  1. Precipitation is any form of cloud H2O that has grown heavy enough to fall to Earth. Water droplets grow by bumping into and combining with other water droplets. Over time they grow heavy enough to fall to Earth. Precipitation

  2. There are several forms of precipitation: • Drizzle • Rain • Snow • Sleet: rain freezes as it falls • Freezing rain: rain freezes as it hits a cold surface • Hail: balls or irregular clumps of ice. Kinds of Precipitation

  3. Hailstones begin as a frozen raindrop (ice) • When the ice falls, it gets pushed back up into the air and another layer of ice forms. • Then it falls again, and another updraft pushes it up again. • The stronger the updrafts the larger the hailstones. HAIL!
