This is the lesson slides for a consecutive pair of lessons I did linked to exclamations in Spanish. There’s a few exercises and a Blockbusters game in the 1st part (slides 2-9) and the rest is an ICT suite lesson where I gave my students the chance to write subtitles for a short animation. I set up the lesson by finding a short movie (1-2 mins) and using the print screen button to capture different parts of the movie from youtube. I pasted these onto slides like a storyboard and underneath gave spaces for the children to write what they want the octopuses to say. The advantage of it being a silent film is that the students can get them to say whatever they want and can be really creative and funny. The focus was on using recyclable vocab like commands and exclamations to make the dialogue and after marking the work I chose 3 to show to the rest of the class. I downloaded the movie using a youtube grabber and used movie maker’s caption button to write the subtitles my best 3 students had written. For the teachers….

Oktapodi Today is your chance to write some subtitles for a cartoon. You need to be creative and imaginative with the focus on using as much recyclable vocabulary as possible(especially commands and exclamations). You have just over 2 minutes of film to write dialogue for. You’ll write your dialogues onto a PowerPoint and the best 3 will be chosen to play to the class on Friday afternoon using movie maker (don’t worry – I’ll do all the technical stuff). Please write text in pink for the girl octopus, orange for the boy octopus and blue for the man. You should try to use the vocabulary Powerpoint as well as slides 2-4 of this powerpoint to do commands and exclamations. Read these slides before you start. On the next slide you should be able to see the short movie of ‘Oktapodi’ or there is a link underneath.
Giving instructions • We can also use these two phrases: Debes / Hay que + A verb • Debescomermenos chocolate – You must eat less chocolate • Hay queiral gimnasio – You have to go to the gym • No hay quefumar – You mustn’t smoke If the words that follow your instruction phrase don’t end in –er/-ar/-ir then they are not verbs.
