Waste Management Procedure • It’s a procedure to commit to waste reporting and tracking as a means of ensuring the protection of the environment. The effective waste management is pivotal to the well-being of the industry, society and the environment. An integrated approach is required to minimise and manage waste and the associated risks in an environmentally acceptable and cost-effective manner through the reduction of waste generation and the conservation of resources must be promoted through judicious resource utilisation, recycling, reuse and the disposal of waste.
Applicability • The Waste Management Procedure EPC 32-245 will apply throughout Eskom Holdings Limited, its divisions, subsidiaries and entities wherein Eskom has a controlling interest.
Types of Waste in Eskom Dx Types of Waste • Fluorescent tubes • Sulphur Hexafluoride gas (SF6) • PCB / PCB Contaminated Oil and equipments • Waste Oil • Asbestos • Health Care Risk Waste • Metals • E-waste • Solvents • Ozone Depleting substances
Reporting • Reports are required by CS on a six-monthly basis, but data should be collected on a monthly basis by the divisions. The monthly reporting will allow divisions to identify gaps and implement mitigation measures to minimise reporting problems. Monthly reporting will also allow trend analysis and the early detection of problems • Reporting must be done in accordance to the annexure K contained in the Eskom Environmental Liaison Committee (ELC) Performance Indicator Reporting Procedure EPC 32-249
