Syllabus Introduction to Sports Medicine HS 349
Text • Essentials of Athletic Training-Arnheim and Prentice Sixth Edition • Introduction to Sports Medicine (workbook)-Yearsley BYU-I Press
Objectives Give the students an awareness of, and the ability to: • 1. Recognize and prevent potential accidents from occurring. • 2. Accurately evaluate accidents and injuries when they do occur. • 3. Administer and/or advise the appropriate care and treatment for injuries. • 4. Set-up guidelines and protocols for training and therapy facilities. • 5. Equip therapy facilities with appropriate modalities. • 6. Administer and supervise therapy facilities.
Grading 1. Almost without exception there will be a quiz at the beginning of each class period, covering the material discussed during the previous class and the chapter in the text being covered. • 2. During final test week there will be a comprehensive final exam worth 200 points. (The final exam will only be given during the scheduled time of final test week).
Grading Continued 3. Your final grade will simply be an average of the total points you acquire from the total points possible. E.g. If there are 1000 points possible and you acquire 940 points or 94% your final grade will be a straight “A”. If you acquire 900 points or 90% your final grade will be an “A-“ etc. 4. There are no make-ups on any assignment, unless it is for an officially excused absence. Then the makeup must be completed within the next week of class. There are a total of 24 chapters in the text, therefore we will cover a different chapter nearly every class period.
