SketchUp 8 Farm

1. SketchUp 8Farm Please read instructions carefully. If you are confused, reread the instructions before asking for help.

2. Opening Google SketchUp • Open Google SketchUp • Look at your desktop • Double click the icon for SketchUp 8

3. Saving Google SketchUp • Click File • Click Save As • Name Work Your Name Castle • Example: John Smith Farm • Save to the Drive with Your Username

4. If You Make a Mistake… • Click Edit in the top menu bar. • Then click Undo. OR • Click Alt and Backspace at the same time.

5. Now to start drawing: • Select the person • Press the delete button

6. Drawing a Rectangle • Select the Rectangle Icon • Starting at the Origin point, drag the corner of the rectangle out to the right and set it. • Now type 50’, 40’ in the box in the bottom right hand corner with the label “Dimensions” • Press Enter Hint: It is hard to tell if you have selected the box. Press backspace to check.

7. The Zoom, Pan and Orbit commands • Use the tools above to adjust your view to look similar to this:.

8. Push Pull Function • Select the Push/Pull tool. • Pull the rectangle up. • Enter 10’ in the measurement box. • Press enter. It should look like this so far:

9. Arc Function • Select the Arc tool. • Following the picture below, click once where the 1 is, then click once where the 2 is. • Move the mouse up the blue axis and click once. • Type 24’ in the the measurement box and press enter. 1 2

10. Check Point • Your barn should look like this so far.

11. Push Pull Function • Select the Push/Pull tool. • Pull the arc out. • Move your mouse to the face of the rectangle and click. • This makes the lengthof the arc the same as the length of the rectangle.

12. Making a Door • Select the rectangle tool. • Move your mouse along the bottom of your barn until you are at the light blue midpoint.

13. Making a Door • Click and drag upward and toward the right. • In the dimensions, box type 4’, 8’.

14. Making a Door • Continue using the rectangle tool. • Click and drag upward and toward the left. • In the dimensions, box type 8’, 4’. • Press enter.

15. Offset Function • Choose the select tool. • Hold down shift and click the outside parts of the door. • See the image as an example.

16. Offset Function • Select the offset tool. • Click on the right side of the door. • Drag out and click to set the offset. • In the measurement box,type 4”. • Press enter.

17. Making a Door • Select the Push/Pull tool. • Pull out the door frame. • In the measurement box, type 2”. • Press enter.

18. Making a Window • Select the Tape Measure tool. • Click the center of the line above the door. • Move the mouse up and click. • In the measurement box, type 8’. During After

19. Making a Window • Select the rectangle tool. • Start the rectangle at the midpoint. • See the picture for help. • In the measurements box, type 10’, 4’. • Press enter.

20. Making a Window • Continue using the rectangle tool. • Make a matching rectangle on the other side. • In the measurement box,type 10’, 4’. • Press enter.

21. Making a Window • Select the Eraser tool. • Erase the center line from the window. • Erase the dotted line from the Tape Measure tool.

22. Making a Window • Choose the select tool. • Double click the window. • See the image as an example.

23. Making a Window • Select the Offset tool. • Click on the right side of the window. • Drag out and click to set the offset. • In the measurement box,type 4”. • Press enter.

24. Making a Window • Select the Push/Pull tool. • Pull out the window frame and move the mouse to the door frame. • This will make the window frame the same distance as the doorframe.

25. Check Point • Your barn should look like this so far:

26. Extended Roof • Choose the Select tool. • Click the top of the roof.

27. Extended Roof • Select the Offset tool. • Click any part of the highlighted roof and pull inward. • In the measurement box, type -6”. • Press enter.

28. Extended Roof • Select the Push Pull tool. • Pull the roof out and set it. • In the measurement box, type 1’. • Press enter.

29. Making a Shed • Select the rectangle tool. • Start at the bottom left corner of the barn. • Draw a rectangle with the measurements 25’, 20’. Start Here

30. Making a Shed • Select the Push Pull tool. • Pull the rectangle up. • In the measurement box, type 8’. • Press enter.

31. Making a Shed • Select the Move tool. • Click the light blue midpoint. • Pull upward to meeting the line 2 feet above. During After

32. Angle Change • Select the Orbit tool. • Orbit around so that you are looking at the back of the barn.

33. Making a Silo • Select the Circle tool. • Make a circle behind the shed. • In the measurement box, type 7’. • Press enter.

34. Making a Silo • Select the Push Pull tool. • Pull the circle upward. • In the measurement box, type 40’. • Press enter.

35. Making a Half Circle • Find a blank space off to the side of the barn. • Select the Circle tool. • Make a circle with a radius of 8’.

36. Making a Half Circle • Continue using the Circle tool. • Find the center of the circle. • Move the mouse straight up from the axis. • When the blue circle turns to green or red, then stop. • Do NOT click anything yet.

37. Making a Half Circle • Hold down the shift key. • Do NOT click anything else. • Move the mouse to the center of the circle. • While still holding down the shift, click once with the mouse. • Let go of the shift key.

38. Making a Half Circle • Move your mouse upward to set the circle. • In the dimensions box, type 7’. • Press enter. • Use the Orbit tool to lookbelow the circle.

39. Making a Half Circle • Select the Line tool. • Make a line starting from 1 to 2 on the image below. • Erase the bottom circle by clicking the edge. First Then Last 1 2

40. Making a Half Circle • Choose the Select tool. • Double click the bottom circle. • Select the Follow Me tool. • Click the other circle once. Last First

41. Making a Half Circle • Select the Eraser tool. • Click the edge of the bottom circle to erase. • Choose the Select tool. • Click the circle three times.

42. Making a Silo • This next step might take several tries. • Remember to undo and try again if it doesn’t work. • Select the Move tool. • Grab the bottom of the half circle and place it on top of the cylinder.

43. Check Point • Your farm should look like this so far:

44. Making a Component • Choose the Select tool. • Click the silo three times. • Right click on the silo. • Choose Make Component.

45. Making a Component • In the box that pops up, type Silo in the name box. • Press Create at the bottom.

46. Making a Component • Now you only have to click the silo once to select the whole thing. • Also, you cannot change the shape of silo.

47. Making a Copy • Select the Move tool. • Press CTR and C on the keyboard at the same time. • The mouse should have a little + sign now. • Click the silo and move your mouse away. • Click to place your copied silo. • See the next slide for an image.

48. Making a Copy • Place the two silos next to each other.

49. 3D Warehouse • Select the Get Models… tool. • In the search bar, type horse by aerilius. • Click search.

50. 3D Warehouse • Click the horse. • Then click Download Model. • Choose OK when it asks to download directly into your work.
