Expectations When the Teacher is Speaking • Do not interrupt/talk over the teacher when he is speaking, even if it is on task. • Do not talk to neighbors/others when the teacher is talking. • Raise your hand if you have a burning question that you want to be addressed. The teacher may ask you to wait, but your question WILL be answered.

  5. Independence Leaders • Jose Marti: Cuban poet (advocated for white creole Cubans to unite with black Cubans together) • Emilio Aguinaldo: mestizo Filipino general becomes 1stFilipino president • Fights against Spain, later the US

  6. US Presidents • McKinley: does not want war  forced into declaring war w/ Spain in 1898 • later assassinated in 1901. • Ted Roosevelt: encourages war, considers it “manly”, good for society. • Takes over as president in 1901.

Write down the definitions to the following terms in your notebook: Roosevelt Corollary, USS Maine, Treaty of Paris, Ten Years’ War, Platt Amendment
