SEMINAR 1. Title : R&D of Materials for PDP and Next-generation Display Devices 2. Speaker : Dr. Yoon Chang Kim (Samsung SDI) 3. Time : 16:00 – 17:00, Thursday, November 8, 2007 4. Place : e+ Lecture Hall (room 83188), 2nd Research Building, Sungkyunkwan University 5. Summary : These days, large FPD (flat panel display) such as PDP and LCD have replaced the CRT in the display market. Customers want a display with better picture quality, higher resolution, and lower thickness. This phenomenon drives the paradigm shift in R&D of materials. It is not too much to say that new materials and nano technology boosted the performance of FPD and accelerated the evolution of new display devices during the past decade. Currently, not only materials but also the related processing technologies are becoming more and more important for the improvement of performance and for the reduction of manufacturing cost in the display industry. This seminar will give an overview of the activities for material development for PDP and next-generation display devices. In the first part of this seminar, basic principle of PDP and key issues of material development will be reviewed. Secondly, next-generation display devices that will appear in the near-and far-future will be introduced. Finally, some examples of the application of nano technology will be presented. 6 Background : Education 1991 Inorganic Materials Science & Engineering, Hanyang University, B.S 1993 Materials Science & Engineering, KAIST, M.S 1997 Materials Science & Engineering, KAIST, Ph.D Work Experience 1997-present Principal Engineer, Corporate R&D Center, Samsung SDI - Development of oxide cathode materials for CRT - Development of high efficient photonic-crystal OLED - Development of phosphor for PDP 7.
