  3. Sea otters • Sea otters off the coast of California have historically been hunted for two reasons • It’s beautiful fur. • It was also killed by fishermen who thought they were eating too many of the fish they wanted to catch. • The sea otters were hunted almost to extinction.

  4. So, why is that a problem?

  5. Keystone species • So, a keystone species is essentially a plant or animal that plays a such a critical role in the environment that the food web would collapse without it.
