  2. Lecture 8 Torsional Displacements 1. Learning Objectives At the conclusion of this lecture you should be able to: • Analyze statically determinate cylindrical shafts in torsion.

  3. 2. Orientation • A key design parameter for many machine components is the angle of twist. A shaft with an excessive tendency to twist will not be able to perform its intended function. During this lecture we will investigate statically determinate torsional systems. Next lecture we will extend this theory to statically indeterminate systems.
